Overview

Marijke van Warmerdam (1959, Nieuwer Amstel, The Netherlands) lives and works in Amsterdam and Karlsruhe. She makes short films, photographs, and sculptures that form an extraordinarily consistent body of work. Van Warmerdam portrays minute moments of life, manipulating them with simple, usually mechanical techniques, repetition, mirroring, shifts in focus, to create an abstraction, a timeless, nearly still moment.
