Overview
Danica Phelps | in The Bakery, Walking 9-5 Amsterdam

On being invited to The Bakery, Danica Phelps decided to do her first European city walking project. Taking Amsterdam as her point of departure each day, she walked in as straight a line as possible from nine to five, thirteen days (at end of October until the beginnining of November). These carefully prepared walks brought her to Zandvoort, Woerden and Almere Stad amongst others. During this direct translation from time to space she made notes for drawings which she later produced in her studio in New York. Not only all financial transactions of a day are recorded on these drawings, but also meetings that happen during her walks and other matters of interest to Phelps. She reflects in a subtle manner on the mechanisms of our consumer society and free market capitalism. The results are to be seen in The Bakery.
