Just as many artists and film makers time and again show us the beauty of water, she zooms in on the struggle of the foaming surface that wants to move to the left and the languid grey sub-surface drawing to the right. Stuck in the middle of this unending struggle, the helpless tree trunk has no way out. Bart Rutten Marijke van Warmerdam is als geen ander in staat een ogenblik te verheffen tot een monumentaal gebaar. Zoals veel schilders en filmmakers ons steeds weer laten kijken naar de schoonheid van water, zoomt zij in op de strijd van de schuimende bovenlaag die naar links wil en de grauwlauwe onderlaag die naar rechts wil.
