ArtBO 2022

27 - 30 October 2022
Annet Gelink Gallery is happy to announce the participation to this year's ARTBO, the art fair in Bogotá, Colombia, with a solo booth by Dick Verdult.

On view will be Bienvenido (2019), two rubber floor mats that each refer to the welcoming of motherhood. Yet, due to the purpose of the floor mat, the image and the functionality of the work stand in a dubious relation. Furthermore, Verdult presents two large bulky vases that represent Kissinger and Pinochet, albeit in folkloric skirts. With the floor mats placed in front of these sculptures, the ensemble recalls the spectacle of an audience with the two former leaders. As always, titles are an importart part of Verdult's work, such as the work Bienvendido (2022). A ''Vendido'' is someone who has sold himself, in the negative sense of the word. "Ese Vendido" ("the sold one") is a direct insult but in many cases, sadly, also the truth. On the other hand, within the context of the art fair, the word takes on a more positive connotation, as does the social position of the participating artist.

Dick Verdult's work encompasses film, performance, graphics, drawing, sculptures and ceramics, radioshows, text and music. Verdult has produced many independent films, worked as a filmmaker and editor for VPRO television, in addition to founding several art groups, including the IBW (Instituut voor Betaalbare Waanzin / Institute for Affordable Lunacy) and Festicumex - a festival for a non-existent music genre. As a visual artist and musician in the experimental Cumbia Lunaticas and Experimentales music he has acquired a cult status, well known by the name of Dick El Demasiado, especially in South America, Russia and Japan.
