Art Island

3 - 5 March 2022

Annet Gelink Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the new contemporary art fair Art Island! From March 3 until March 5, over 20 Amsterdam-based galleries will present their artists on Fortress Island in IJmuiden.

For this year's Art Island, Annet Gelink Gallery presents work by Steffani Jemison

Steffani Jemison’s (1981, Berkley, California, USA) work is rooted in research and encompasses a variety of media including video, performance and sculpture. Her work questions the limits and structures of narrative storytelling and linear time and explores the inherited narratives that form our perception of the world. The videowork Figure 8 comes out of Jemison’s collaboration with athlete Alexis Page. The title describes the movement of the camera, as it moves around the body of the performer, while Page muses aloud on continuity and fluency of gesture. Together, Jemison and Page explore movement as research method, art-making strategy, and as a way of approaching the everyday with a certain artistry.

Figure 8 was commissioned by Light Work's Urban Video Project and shown on their architectual projection site on the facade of the Everson Museum of Art. See the video below for more information.
