David Claerbout participates in the group exhibition Mythos Wald in Kunsthalle Emden, investigating the existential bond between people and the forest, which is also reflected in art - whether mysterious and sinister or peaceful and empowering. David Claerbout's installation Wildfire (meditation of fire) (2019-2020) uses 3D computer techniques and a simple camera movement to depict a spectacular wildfire in an artificially rendered landscape. Moving at a very slow pace, views of a luscious forest slowly merge into dramatic—and hypnotic—still images of destructive flames, absorbing the viewer into its hellish scenery.
