Taking the church’s twenty-five-metre-high spiral staircases as a point of departure, There’s Always Another Twist unfolds as a new audiovisual installation in which spiritual imagination meets the illusions of early cinema. Often seen in film as symbols of psychological tension or cyclical movement—between rise and fall, fear and desire—the spiral staircases become a central motif through which Kersten explores shifting states of perception.
