Barbara Visser at Mo Museum, LTU

05.10.2019 - 23.02.2020

Mo Museum, Vilnius

In the majority of projects, executed in photography, film, print, text or performance, Barbara Visser has been occupied with the uncertain relationship between registration and dramatization, she plays with notions of original and copy, and questions the way history and memory are being shaped by both the individual and society.

The first decade of independence from the USSR shaped Lithuanians to who they are today. The decade of chaos, freedom, scarcity and the unofficial discovery of state. Memorable artifacts of regular people brought together in an exhibition demonstrating the shift to a more structured and civilized existence. Why are Lithuanians today as they are? The exhibition 'The Origins of Species: 1990s DNA' will uncover the conflicting mood of the society, euphoric nature of new beginnings and the complexity of change. Music, fashion, market economy, a newly born mafia and pop culture will find itself reflected in the artworks of MO collection.
