Roger Hiorns investigates material and form in the broadest sense. Hiorns has been quite constant in his material use throughout his career. Namely, he focused on copper sulphate solution, which through a chemical process results in blue crystal formations. The the paintings, however, present a new direction Hiorns has taken, with the focus on the physical and bodily. The human bodies in two-dimensional form portray an abstracted yet sensual depiction of the human state. In repeatedly exploring material and form in the large-scale paintings, the figures are both recognisable as well as alluringly alien.
