Postcard of a frozen canal in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
The works in the series 'Loophole' consist of an amount of images created by punching holes in everyday objects and documents drawn from the artist’s personal life, such as an airline ticket, a visa photo, a bill, and a Mastercard. By transforming ordinary, familiar materials into abstract artworks, Loophole plays with the tension between reality and abstraction, and evokes the idea of a loophole — a gap or opening in rules or systems that can be used for personal advantage without technically breaking the law. With this gesture, Prieto both disrupts the original objects and creates new symbolic meanings, resisting conventional systems and inviting viewers to reflect on perception, meaning, and materiality.
