Meiro Koizumi presents BOR (2024), a sculpture from his ongoing series Altars. As our social lives increasingly unfold in digital spaces, our sense of the physical body begins to fade. Koizumi’s Altars explore the shifting state of human physicality in a technologically mediated world.

In BOR the human and the technological both clash and merge. Body parts dissolve into engine blocks, resembling the outcome of an AI-generated montage. The work appears suspended between the real world and the virtual one, in a limbo state that is neither entirely human nor entirely machine. The distorted and uncomfortable posture evoke unease, even revulsion, as if confronting something we instinctively wish to avoid. With BOR, Koizumi makes tangible the fragile and increasingly uncertain value of the human body in a world where technology plays an ever more vital role.
