Antonis Pittas’ marble sculptures combine classical associations, grand gestures and political acts, emphasizing the tension between the mutable and passing dynamics and elements. The marbles are shaped in different sizes of tires and barricades used in violence associated with the protest movement that has swept through (mostly Southern) Europe. Pittas make physical this violence, hardening it in the durable material of marble. In doing so, he also monumentalizes the small occurrences that form public history, by using texts derived from the news reports on these protests. The marble sculpture breaks up Bayer’s immaculate concept which operates as a reference in the artist's work, disrupting it with chaotic, messy violence.
