Based on medieval religious maps of the world, Bartana has created this work as a complement to her 2013 film 'Inferno'. 'Inferno' confronts the conflation of place, history, and belief, providing insight into the complex realities of Latin America that have given rise to the newly built Temple of Salomon in Sao Paulo. 'Inferno' collapses the histories of antiquity in the Middle East with a surreal present unfolding halfway around the world. In much the same way 'Waiting for Messiah' underpins the malleability of (religious) mythologizing.
