2011 Lake of Fire, Den Frie Udstillingsbygning, Copenhagen, DK

A sculptural composition assembled by the artist, with consultation of the great great granddaughters of Gerrit Rietveld, age seven and nine. Eighteen pieces of wood originally constructed as an ‘Easy Chair’ from the Crate Furniture series by Gerrit Rietveld circa 1934. This was made as part of a live performance in front of an audience on the 28th November 2008. The original “Krat” (Crate) furniture was produced using untreated red spruce normally reserved for packing cases. It was sold in a kit form, to be assembled at home by the purchaser. The Crate furniture was a response to the economic crisis of the 1930s. It offered useful, inexpensive seating with basic construction and cheap materials. Other items of 'Crate' furniture include a Crate easy chair, Crate table, Crate desk, Crate bookcase and a Crate stool, all from 1934.
