Commissioned and produced by Fondazione In Between Art Film, the film Nebula (2024), stages a sheep wandering alone, away from its flock, through the empty exhibition venue of Complesso dell'Ospedaletto in Venice, and proposes a spatial and metaphorical reflection on care, mortality, and the search for meaning.
The film oneiric approach connects the different architecture styles, from the solemn space of the Church of Santa Maria dei Derelitti to the stripped-down functionality of the Ospedaletto, with their symbolic meanings of places that offered compassion for the soul and the sick body. The sheep, rather than being guided by a shepherd, seems shepherding the visitors through the multiple layers of this venue as much as of individual and collective memory, direction and drift, fact and fiction. Andreotta Calò has personal memories of these spaces since his father and grandfather worked there as doctors, and sometimes he would visit them. The soundtrack of the film is spatialised so as to create a dreamy atmosphere that connects distant times and experiences.
