The book is named after Erik Wesselo's address in New York City, where he lived between January 2001 and April 2002. It consists of two parts, each based on the same principle.

The first, visual section includes drawings, photographs, letters and notes to create a reminiscence of life and events at 56 Beaver Street. The documents bear witness to moments of contact between people, when attempts were made to reach out to one another. Part two, a text written by J.M. Edwards is based on Wesselo’s stories. Its almost cinematic nature becomes increasingly a separate and self-contained entity, just as a scenario for a film.

The visual and written sections are two tales beginning at the same point, all asking questions about the nature of the metropolis and the people who live there.
