Ed van der Elsken

Through a cinematic succession of text and grainy black-and-white photos, Van der Elsken tells us a semi-autobiographical love story between Manuel and Ann, situated in the grim atmosphere of post-war Paris of the 1950s. Van der Elsken follows Ann with his camera through Paris while she dances, drinks, flirts, fights, sleeps, falls in love.

A love story in Saint-Germain-des-Prés has become a cult book that until now was almost impossible to find.
